About
A dramatic, links-style masterpiece that ranks as one of the best courses on Earth
Located some 80 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, the award-winning Bluffs Ho Tram Strip is a breathtaking links-style 18-hole golf course designed by the legendary Greg Norman. Spectacularly set amidst the sand dunes and rugged terrain of the Vietnamese coast, giving the course an authentic links feel that's rare in Asia, it's a genuine masterpiece of a course that more than deserves its coveted spot on Golf Digest's 2022 list of World's 100 Greatest Courses.
The course is beautifully maintained, and the bumpy, undulating fairways are lush and green while at the same time offering plenty of roll. There's not much in the way of rough - anything offline will likely find sand, and the blustery conditions mean this is almost inevitable at some point. The greens are full of ridges and hollows and run lightning fast, meaning your putting skills will be a huge factor in your score.
The front nine eases you into things, with a relatively gentle par 4, before embarking a run of fun, dramatic holes. The 2nd is a beautiful 232-yard par 3 that plays to a tabletop green next to the ocean, with steep drop-offs on all sides and a solitary bunker on front, while the 172-yard 4th is an even better short hole, playing downhill over a gorge to another undulating green.
There's only one water hazard of note on the course, at the par-4 8th, where you carry must carry the lake off the tee to a fairway that is split in two by a sandy waste bunker, but don't let that fool you, this is tough course at which to score well, particularly on the back nine which ups the ante over more undulating terrain.
The 10th is a long, tough uphill par 5 whose initially generous fairway severely narrows as you approach the green, while the very short par-3 11th features a heavily undulating green guarded by sand either side and a steep drop-off in front that imposes a harsh penalty on anything short.
The 13th is a par 4 requiring a tee that threads a narrow channel to ideally find the left side of a fairway that opens up, from where you can more easily avoid the lone tree that stands in the way of anyone finding themselves on the right, while the 15th is a long uphill par 3 that's difficult to judge.
The closing stretch through the dunes is magnificent, with the 16th a long downhill par 5 with a snaking, multi-level fairway, and the 17th and 18th a pair of long par 4s each with heavily undulated fairway and a green full of swales, ridges and hollows.
There are a couple of small issues: most of the holes play dead straight, meaning there's generally little advantage to be gained from choosing one side or other off the tee, and some long distances between holes interrupt the flow somewhat, but these are small niggles in the context of what is undoubtedly one of the best experiences in world golf.
The large clubhouse is first-class, with a well-stocked pro shop and various excellent restaurant serving delicious food. The staff is friendly and accommodating, offering 5-star service befitting of a club of this stature. There's also an onsite PGA golf academy with extensive practice facilities, while The Grand Ho Tram Strip golf resort development has features a 5-star hotel as well as numerous restaurants and entertainment outlets.
Overall, the Bluffs Ho Tram Strip is a world-class golf course that should be on every golfer's bucket list. The course's natural beauty and challenging layout make it a must-play for golf enthusiasts. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, the Bluffs Ho Tram Strip will test your skills and provide an unforgettable golfing experience.
